1273 - The House of Habsburg was launched and Count Rudolf was elected King of Germany.
1273 - 1918 - The Habsburg Empire
1273 - 1525 - Time when rulers wanted to have the same rules and strengthen their Austrian heritage.
1291 - King Rudolf died, but he made a great foundation on which the family can be built.
1438 - Archduke of Austria was made Holy Roman Emperor. This was because the Habsburg family was consistently reelected. Only 1 person was elected that wasn’t part of the family.
1526 - King Louis of Hungary and Bohemia dies childless on the battlefield in the Battle of Mohacs against the Ottoman Empire. Ferdinand became the king of Hungary and Bohemia.
1606 - Matthias made King of Hungary. He secured recognition as King of Hungary at Pressburg. Then after confirming the privileges of the king, he granted religious liberty to the Protestants of Austria, raised an army and advanced into Moravia.
1608 - Evangelical Union was formed under the leadership of the Elector Palatine.
1618 - 1648 - The Thirty Years War was fought for religious and political freedom for the Protestants of the empire.
1689 - 1697 - A War of the League of Augsburg - a war between France and the House of Austria.
1675 - 1700 - The end of the 16th Century
The problems were maintaining supremacy over the crown, struggle against the Turks, and confrontation between Catholics and Protestants.
