What is Energy? The simplest definition of energy is “the ability to do work”. Energy is how things change and move. It’s everywhere around us and takes all sorts of forms. - ducksters.com

The sun provides light, heat ad energy.

Plants take in the energy from light from the sun and transforms it into food they can use. Animals can not make their own food, so they must either eat plants or other animals to get that energy in the form of food. This energy enables their bodies to do the work to keep them alive and healthy.

Heat from the sun warms the air near the ground causing it to expand and rise. Cooler air is pushed into the space beneath the warm air, creating movement of air called wind.

We burn wood for fuel to get energy to cook food or for heat, which is a form of energy. Wood got its energy originally from the sun and is stored in wood until we burn it releasing that energy as heat, a form of energy. We burn fuel in our cars to provide the energy for them to move us places. If that fuel is a fossil fuel, it came from organisms that died ages ago, but the energy we extract from their remains to drive our cars originally came from the sun.

Kinetic Energy/ Potential Energy

Kinetic energy is the energy an object has due to its motion.

Potential energy is energy stored in an object due to its position.
