Early May Field Trip - Vatican - Again - Day Six

We are going to the Vatican to hear the Pope give his Wednesday address.

The Pope holds an audience at St. Peter’s Basilica every Wednesday of the month. If you choose to visit on a Wednesday, make your way to the Vatican Museums first and then make your way to the St Peter's Basilica by the time the crowd makes their way to the Museums.

The pope holds an audience at Saint Peter's Basilica every Wednesday. In warm weather it is held in St. Peters Square

But first we will have breakfast in Vatican City.

After hearing the Pope, we will head to Campo dei Fiori, which is directly across the river from the Vatican.

This is another beautiful piazza from Renaissance and Baroque times (used as a market, but also for public executions).

Today it's mostly known for its open-air market, and its high concentration of lively bars and pubs and places to eat.

That statue in the middle of the square honors the philosopher Giordano Bruno, burnt at the stake on this spot for heresy in 1600.

He was later exonerated for his crime (insisting the earth went around the sun), hence this statue of him.

We will find a pub to have a drink and something to eat for lunch.

After lunch we will head to Villa Borghese park, where we will rent bikes (if you like) and just spend the afternoon relaxing. (Blankets and chairs will be set up on the grassy area for us)

If you walk back into it, you will come to a carousel, a café, places for bike and other rentals, and lots of fun things to do, for adults and kids alike.

Dinner will be at the I COLORI DEL VINO - a wine bar
